Theresa May, Start Listening

Project title: Theresa May, Start Listening
A research led project that explored key facts around why knife crime is on the rise in the UK. This was achieved through the creation of multiple outcomes, the first of which is a risograph poster, produced to articulate the main statistics around Theresa May’s decisions, and how they seemed to increase the problem. It introduces key facts around the influences on knife crime statistics, such as how much funding has been cut from youth services in the last decade. The second outcome then takes the data from these different factors and allows viewers to interact with, and understand, the correlation over the years. The data was used to produce different sized 3D models of knives that represent the situation over different periods of time, which are housed in a knife block for users to take out and place in the correct position on the poster, which corresponds to a given year, assisting the educational aspect through interactivity. This project aimed to call the issue of knife crime into question from a new angle, particularly in terms of what the government could be doing to help.
