Project title: Unpackaging
A fast-paced five day project based on using normative objects to inspire a design project and outcome that provokes an audience to make a change. Beginning with a piece of ordinary household waste, the task was to turn it into a related project of great significance. When provided with a shower gel bottle as the ‘waste’ item at the start, initial research led to animal rights exploration. It was discovered that although the brand of shower gel in this case claimed they did not test on animals, their parent company did. This steered the campaign into focussing on animal testing, and provoking the audience to question the true values of cosmetic companies, by using illustrations of real animals with objects typically associated with lab tests in the beauty industry.
